Deacon Personnel Board
Search

In the Fall of 1989, a Permanent Deacon Personnel Board (DPB) was formed as a separate entity from the single permanent deacon representative on the Clergy Personnel Board. The creation of the DPB was due to the maturing of the deacon ministry and the increased number of permanent deacons in the archdiocese. Representatives of the Clergy Personnel Board also recognized that the life and ministry of priests and deacons have several major differences, suggesting that separate boards were needed to handle their concerns with understanding and effectiveness.

The intent of the DPB is to serve as a resource and support for deacons, assisting them in the satisfactory performance of their ministry and the Church’s mission. This Board, through the Office of the Archbishop, advises the Archbishop on deacon policy and personnel matters. The Division of Clergy Personnel coordinates and staffs the work of both the Priest and Deacon Personnel Boards, attentive to issues that may be of interest to both boards.
